AMAZONAT - near Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil

The closest city to Amazonat is Manaus. The international airport of Manaus, Eduardo Gomes, has daily international and national flights. Direct international flights come from Miami (5 hrs.) and Miami via Panama City, Panama (6 hrs). Within Brazil there are several flights per day from Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Recife, Salvador, Belém and Fortaleza. You will find our office located in the arrival hall opposite exit gates 3 and 4. Amazonat Jungle Lodge is the only jungle lodge in the state of Amazonas that has a Government license to operate an office at the airport.

We will pick you up at the Manaus international airport upon your arrival, then leave it to us and enjoy your Amazon adventure! All roundtrip transfers from the Manaus airport to our ecolodge are included in our packages. We will take you to Amazonat in one of our air-conditioned vans, boat or hydroplane depending on the package selected. Transfer time by land is 2 hours in our own air-conditioned vans. Transfer time by boat is about 6-7 hours. The method of transportation depends on the package selected.

Visas

Citizens of USA and Canada need to obtain a visa to visit Brazil.

You may check the website below to see what countries require a visa and to get additional information on requirements to obtain it. Check with your local Brazilian consulate or their website for any additional information.

Vaccines

No immunizations, shots, inoculations or vaccinations are required to enter Brazil. It is best to consult with your personal physician to determine what vaccines or other medical protection you require. Please note that because of the low incidence of mosquitoes in Amazonat ecolodge malaria is not a problem. You should carefully weigh the benefits of taking prophylaxis for it versus its unpleasant side effects. An insect repellent may be all that is needed for extra protection.

Currency

The Brazilian currency is the Real or Reais in plural. The symbol for the Real is R$. The official exchange rate is published daily in the newspapers.

U.S dollars are easily exchanged at hotels, banks, travel agencies and currency exchange offices. There are ATM machines at the Manaus International airport where you can withdraw up to 1000R$/card/day. At Amazonat you may pay with US$.

Language

Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. Brazil is the only Portuguese-speaking country in South America.

Electricity

Most of Brazil has a current of either 110V or 220V with 60 cycles. Manaus and Amazonat have a current of 110V like in the US. The plugs in Brazil normally have two round pins, Amazonat has wall sockets that will accept both regular US and Brazilian type plugs. Brazilian conversion plugs, suitable for dual-voltage appliances can be purchased at many airports and electrical stores in Brazil.

Time Zone

The time zone for Manaus is UTC/GMT (Coordinated Universal Time/Greenwich Mean Time) -4 hours. It does not observe daylight savings time because it is close to the equator. For example, in Manaus, time is +1 hour ahead of the east coast USA (EST) and –5 hours behind central Europe.
